I do like jambands, but other than that, here is a bit of the "newer" non-jam music I have been listening to:

Ray LaMontagne
Amos Lee
Angela McCluskey
Ari Hest
Joanna Newsom
Trespassers William

(plus some ambient artists like Lucette Bourdin, Karunesh, Akshara Weave, Steve Roach, etc)

The only two that you mention that I even know of are Akshara Weave and Steve Roach. Guess I am in the world of SF bands, jam bands, jazz and blues and some Americana.

You must have a decent familiarity with ambient if you know Akshara Weave and S. Roach. Pretty cool stuff :)

i didnt bother listing any of the jazz or blues i have been listening. but if listing jazz, i would have to add the Zawinul Syndicate, Jan Garbarik, and Keith Jarrett and as on my rotation quite often lately.

Actually, I listen to GD less than anything else lately. So much "new" music I am discovering (or at least new to me.)

Also been listening to some classical lately - esp. Sibelius, Albinoni, and Clementi.

Listening to a bit of Classical here too. Got Beethoven's
9 symphonies by Arturo Toscanini recently. Notice you mentioned Sibelius, have a couple of discs by him that I really am not that familiar with, will play this weekend. Always exploring Miles and Coltrane.

If you have Sibelius' string quartets - give them a listen - just beautiful. (Symphonies are no slouches either)

The LVB symphonies I have are Anton Nanut orchestrations - kinda subdued imo. Toscanini's name rings a bell - those are probably better recordings. Just LOVE Beethoven's 6th!!

Realized after reading your list that I hardly listen to any newer music except for the jam bands. The exceptions are Buddy Miller, Steve Earle and Darrel Scott. Otherwise I keep exploring the roots.

I'll second that. The Mountain is a must-have. Del is great on the record, but it's Ronnie McCoury's mando and Steve Earle's vocals that make the album special.

Indeed, Ronnies backup vocals are top notch too..there's a video floating around cyberspace where they do the whole album, old school, around a single microphone. Good stuff..i still get chills when I hear The Mountain.

Jeeezzz, I dunno any of them...I really gotta get out more.

Here's the "hits" CD playing RIGHT now while I am working (kids made it for me from stuff of theirs I heard and liked...oh, and yeah, I recognize many are "oldies" but they must be trying to mix it up so I don't go into "non 68" shock or some such):

VFemmes
Clash
Eels
WhStripes
SEarle
Pogues
Smpumpkins
ToadSprock
Strummer (Clash guy?)
OysHead (hey BD!)
VFemmes (again)
RHCPepps
THeads
JTull
Raconteurs (sp?)

Can't name the others...they are trying to expand my horizons, and if you care, Ring-e-low, there's a great tune in here that one told me they gave the lyrics to a girl! "I held her in my arms" by VFemmes if anyone cares.

Kaki King is surely a very very interesting guitarist from the little I have heard her. I shall check out some more of her stuff - thanks :)
